You shouldn't use Release Candidates for production sites either, for that matter, even if it's your own product. That's one way to instill confidence I guess.

Most of my sites have been fluid, but I recently moved to fixed (fixed for 1024px though) and I've come to appreciate it. First, it does appear a bit more professional for some reason, and secondly it simplifies web design when you don't have to take into account what happens with super-wide browsers. To move, moving to fixed width is a positive thing. My impression on the new site is basically positive, although it does remind me of a blog rather than a home site for a product.

Well, my mistake. I was basing my statement on the assumption that they would not use beta code on the live board. Hm.

damnian, there is a post about the MOD-DB being offline. From what was stated by Acyd Burn the downtime over the past few weeks was used to push ahead with the release of phpBB3 on phpbb.com. Some of the site features that are not related to phpBB3 aren't quite ready.

Esmond, your comments continue to get tagged as spam. What have you done to irritate the Akismet folks? ;-)

John

I like proSilver, but there are some aspects of it that bug me. And the fact that the site (phpbb.com) is now fixed width rather than fluid bugs the heck out of me. Time for that later.

Thanks for correcting my "Release Candidate" comments, I'll update the blog post accordingly.

But great to see new style...my guess that tabs were going to feature and start to use them already in my MOD has paid off!!

Actually since I logged this blog with my RSS reader, I did see your entry first! First impressions? The index of the new skin is nothing special, but the viewtopic page is very cool. It's much cleaner, I like it a lot.

Actually, phpBB3 is still B5 (at least that's what's Downloads list). And all the MODs are gone. Oh, and proSilver IS a blast!
